    Winter Hike

    Winter Hike for the Whole Family

    When: Sunday, February 12th 

    What: Explore the trails of the Closter Nature Center with Naturalist Marc Gussen

    Weather permitting, we will have a fire and roast marshmallows.

    Boards can be slippery in winter -- shoes with rubber soles are a must. 

    Cost: $5 for Members/ $10 for Non-Members

    Volunteer Day

    Dedicated Volunteers Needed!
     
    Closter Nature Center needs your help to address some of the immediate needs of our forest and trail system.
    We hope that you can help us meet this critical need at the Closter Nature Center!

    When: Sunday, February 12th

    Time: 10am-12pm

    Meeting Place: Closter Nature Center Log Cabin, 154 Ruckman Road, Closter, NJ 07624

    Adult Volunteers Needed (Teens 13-16 with an adult)

    Pre-Registration: Requested  (see form below).

    What to Wear: Work boots, work gloves, long pants, long sleeves

    What we are doing: Our tentative plan for this session is to work on the Orange Trail fence. In the case of inclement weather, we will meet in the cabin where Naturalist Marc Gussen will provide an overview of CNC's trail needs and forest stewardship goals.

    The Closter Nature Center has been expanding its team of volunteers for trail maintenance and invasive species removal.  We are looking for physically able volunteers at different levels of skill and time commitment to join in this important work for the sustainability of our 136-acre forest and 3 miles of hiking trails.  

    YOU could be a highly valued member of this very important team!

  • Closter History Hike

    Closter History Hike

    (Adult Program – suitable for interested teens with an adult) 

    Public Historian and Closter Nature Center Trustee Francesca Costa will lead a hike touching on the history of Closter, and  how land stewardship was as crucial in the past as it is now. Subjects include Blanch  Ave, Closter City, and the families who called this area home. 

    We will meet at the CNC Cabin at 1pm on Sunday, January 29th.  

    Admission free, donations graciously accepted.

  • Volunteer Day – January 8th, 2023

    Volunteer Day

    When: Sunday, January 8th

    Time: 2-4pm

    Meeting Place: Closter Nature Center Log Cabin, 154 Ruckman Road

    Pre-Registration: Requested  (see form below). Adults or teens with an adult.

    What to Wear: Work boots, work gloves, long pants, long sleeves

    What we are doing: If the weather allows, we will work on the Orange Trail. Otherwise, we will meet in the cabin to overview CNC's trail needs and forest stewardship goals.

    1/8/2022 Trail Project: Volunteers will help us repair the fence and maintain the path around the perimeter of the Orange Trail enclosure. The attached overview will give you more information about Perimeter Path Maintenance and Fence Repair.
