    CLOSTER NATURE CENTER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

    The Executive Director (ED) will oversee onsite environmental programs and classes, management of volunteers, natural and manmade Nature Center infrastructure, and community outreach. These responsibilities include furthering the mission of the Closter Nature Center, stewardship of the land, its native flora and fauna, trails, and all physical property. This individual will report directly to the Board of Trustees. 

    ED Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    1. Represent the Closter Nature Center in the larger community at all times through participation in community events and meetings. Serve as a positive role model in interactions with Nature Center members and public officials.  
    2. Develop and manage environmental programming for children and adults. These programs will minimally consist of year-round onsite nature experiences and onsite classes, including a summer program.
    3. Develop revenue sources that ensure the long-term growth and financial health of the Closter Nature Center.
    4. Implement and manage programs to ensure the trails are maintained in excellent condition.
    5. Implement programs and activities to protect native species and reduce invasive species.
    6. Manage onsite caretaker.
    7. Manage groups of volunteers or other staff members needed to achieve Nature Center program and financial goals. 
    8. Submit for board approval proposed annual budget goals, including revenues and expenses, which the ED is responsible for achieving.
    9. Participate in monthly board meetings and committee meetings. 

    Qualifications:

    • A college degree and a strong interest in ecology, environmental science, or related field.
    • Prior experience with a nonprofit environmental organization.
    • Experience generating program revenues and contributing to meeting financial goals.
    • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with volunteers and staff.
    • Participation in developing annual budgets and reporting financial results.
    • Ability to effectively communicate the Nature Center’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the community.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong public speaking ability. 
    • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy and integrity.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office and common digital technologies and applications.

    Hours, Compensation, and Benefits

    This is a full-time salaried position that will include some evenings and weekends. A base salary commensurate with experience and performance, subject to an annual performance review, two weeks paid vacation and federal paid holidays, a medical insurance contribution.
