Marc Gussen has been teaching at the Closter Nature Center for more than twenty years. Having taught hundreds of children and adults, he is affectionately known as "Nature Marc". In 2017, Marc was awarded the Patricia F. Kane Environmental Education Award from New Jersey Audubon. Gussen has a Bachelor of Arts degree in applied ecology from Rutgers University.

The Closter Nature Center is a certifying organization in the President’s Volunteer Awards Program (PVSA). The PVSA program is sponsored by AmeriCorps and operated by Points of Light Inc.
